The Events

CAR FIRE
EVENT SETUP: This event will simulate a response to a car fire. Engine 12 shall be placed on the front apron of station 1 next to the hydrant facing Fortino Dr. The engine will be running with the pump NOT in gear. You will get 60 seconds to plan your strategy. The group leader shall NOT be the pump operator.
OBJECTIVE: The team is to start out with hands on the front bumper of Engine 12. On your start, they will mount 12 and don SCBAs in their seats (NOT OUTSIDE THE CAB). The pump operator will engage the pump and proceed to place the car fire load in service but not advance it. The fully donned SCBA members will advance the hose line (not the operator) to the side walk next to the south walk in door of the station, stop and with the water stream, knock over a traffic cone placed in a common location at least 25' from the advanced hose. The time will stop when the cone is knocked over.
TIME KEEPER: Have all members freeze. Check for infractions such as: turn out gear improperly donned, Incorrect pump pressure, running etc. Record times and infraction(s). Discuss findings with group. Have the group replace all the equipment to its original place and condition and have them standby for the next rotation. Radio to training officer when finished.

TOOL SEARCH
This event is designed to measure a firefighters ability to retrieve tools, and /or equipment from an engine quickly. Engine 11 will be located at a predetermined area. The team LEADER will be the ONLY one to help.
There will be a table with lists of tools and/or equipment. The team members will NOT be able to view the lists before hand. Safety is an issue.
OBJECTIVE: The team will start at a predetermined location away from the table and apparatus. On start, One team member will select a list from the table and proceed to the apparatus. They will retrieve the items on the list and proceed back to the staging area. At that point, the team leader will correct them if need be. The team member will take the wrong item back to the apparatus and get the correct one. The team leader will not be retrieving tools only assisting on the location only on the second attempt. Once the team leader feels the correct items have been retrieved, the team member will return to the staging area and hand tag the next member. Time will stop when all members have completed their lists.
TIME KEEPER: At this point, you will recheck the list to the items pulled. 10 seconds will be added for each infraction.

21/2" (150') HOSE ADVANCE & CHARGE
This event can be associated with protecting an exposure. An engine is to be placed on Civic drive. The engine is to be running with the pump out of gear facing east at a predetermined location. On the tail board there is to be three rolled lengths of 2 ½" hose with the male couplings inside and one 2 ½" adjustable nozzle. At the west end of the parking lot, there will be a traffic cone set so that it will 50' away from the 150' lay of hose when connected. The group leader shall NOT be the pump operator. You may give the team 60 seconds to plan their strategy.
OBJECTIVE: The team is to start out inside seated in the apparatus. On your start, they will connect all the hose, flow water and tip over the cone at which the time will stop.
TIME KEEPER: Log the time and add 5 seconds for each unsafe act by each member. List the infraction(s) on your log and discuss with the team. Have the group replace the hose, nozzle, cone and pump to the condition before starting and have the team standby for next rotation. Radio to training officer when finished.

1 3/4" (250') HOSE ROLE THROW
This event is to simulate advancing and rolling up hose quickly. Five lengths of 1 3/4" hose will be placed rolled near the rear bay door. All members are required to wear full turn out gear.
OBJECTIVE: Each member will start at a pre-determined location. All members will be side by side. On start, all members will role out their hose all at the same time. Than they will walk to the other end and start rolling it back up. Once it is rolled up, they will be stacked on top of each other. Time will stop when the last role is placed on top. The trick is to try to role out the hose in a straight line so it doesn’t inter fear with the other members.
